In general, the following can be said about "menthol":
The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) warns that undiluted essential oils are not suitable for infants and small children. Special care must be taken for children under three years of age when using camphor, eucalyptus, thyme and peppermint oil (menthol). These essential oils are regarded as particularly problematic.
In Dr. C. SOLDAN products, however, the quantity of essential oils and menthol is minimal, despite the (relatively) intense taste, and therefore cannot be compared with taking undiluted essential oils. Menthol basically has a cooling effect - a little stronger or weaker depending on the dosage. Since we offer cough drops, we consider this a sensible addition to the recipe for such products.
We generally recommend that our products should not be given to children under three years of age. This is mainly due to the potential choking hazard. This also applies to our Kids Em‑eukal, whether cough drops or gumdrops: Since choking can unfortunately never be completely ruled out, we recommend that Kids Em‑eukal only be given to smaller children (under three years of age) under supervision. However, the decision regarding the consumption of our products by small children ultimately lies with the parent or guardian.
